5 Organizing Projects to Tackle This Summer
Declutter your pantry.
If you are like me you probably over bought groceries this past year and now you have a very full pantry. Take some time to go through your pantry and throw out any items that have expired, this includes spices. Next, take a look at all your non-perishables, if there are non-expired items you won’t likely be using in the next 3 months, place them in a bag and drop them off at your local food bank. If you are hungry for more decluttering I would take a peak at that medicine cabinet, chances are there's a lot that has expired.
Gather your hosting items.
We are all ready for a summer filled with people we love so have your hosting items ready to go so you aren't scrambling the day of. Think of all the things you might need for a backyard bbq: plates, cups, flatware, napkins (bonus points if they are compostable). Gather your items and store them in a condiment caddy. Next, take inventory of your serving trays and drink dispensers. Dust them off, give them a good clean and then store them somewhere that is accessible. The cabinet above the fridge is one of my go-to places to store hosting items, easy to get to but not taking up prime real estate in my kitchen.
Find a home for your gardening tools.
Confession, I don’t garden and have yet to be able to keep an indoor or outdoor plant alive. However, I do organize the gardening supplies that are used by my husband. Whether you keep your gardening supplies in the garage or in a gardening shed, it's time to organize them. Go through all the items and categorize, weeding tools, lawn care, gardening gloves, small tools, ect. Donate anything in good condition you're not using and throw out anything that is rusted or broken. Then contain it with a bin or basket & find a home for it. if it doesn't fit in a bin utilize wall space to hang bigger items. The most important part, label those bins! Labeled bins will create order so that you know where to get items and where to put things back.
Summer Fun Station
This one is definitely my favorite summer organizing project to tackle, the “Summer Fun Station”. Gather all the items you’ll need for a day out in the sun. Items like sunscreen, beach towels, water bottles, floaties, cooler, beach bag, sand toys and anything else you would usually bring to the beach, park, pool, splash pad, or out on a boat. Next, find an area of your house or garage to dedicate to all the things you need for outings this summer. This can be as small as a basket filled with summer items or you can dedicate a few garage shelves or part of a hallway closet. Having a “summer fun station” enables you to be spontaneous & out the door in minutes.
Winter wear
You are probably wondering why we are talking about winter items in summer time but tackling this project will make for a smoother fall. Take a quick look through your winter gear including hats, gloves, snow gear, and coats. Check sizes to see if anything needs to be given away, if you have multiple kids look to see what can be passed down or what needs to go. Throw away gloves that have lost their partner. Make a list of items that need to be replaced. When September rolls around and you are taking advantage of back to school sales you will know exactly what you need or don’t need.
